About

About the Journal
The Journal of Global Hindu Cultures is a peer-reviewed, scholarly, open-access, online publication covering multi-, cross-, and inter-disciplinary examinations of the Hindu Dharma traditions and associated cultures in the global contexts wherein these traditions are or have been practiced.
As the academy continues its journey from occidental to global, the Journal of Global Hindu Cultures appreciates the need for usage of recognizable terminology such as Hindu, insofar as it has served as a geographical marker for the numerous peoples of Ancient India and the Indosphere for more than two millennia. It works in awareness that though having provenance in the same cultural milieu, Zoroastrianism, Jainism, Buddhism, and Sikhism are distinct world religions. Accepting the efforts of notable religious studies theorists over the past two decades to problematize the almost universal monolithic descriptions of the remaining Dharma traditions developed in this region, this journal prioritizes the work of scholars who have undertaken the task of reckoning with the problematic legacy of early scholarship of this discipline and are seeking to apply contemporary scholarly methods to the study of Global Hindu Cultures.

Aim & Scope
In recognition of the multiplicity of traditions in the regions designated Hindu by the academy, the Journal of Global Hindu Cultures seeks articles that take innovative approaches to arts, architecture, archaeology, anthropology, philosophy, religion, ethics, history, law, political theory, economics, sociology, psychology, science, medicine, linguistics, literature, etc. as they relate to the Hindu Dharmas.

Articles are evaluated based on the level of rigor undertaken in the research and familiarity with the current state of research and methodology in the discipline(s). Of key importance will be the originality of insights offered and contributions to ongoing debates and discussions in the field.

Editorial Policy
Articles will not be considered for publication if they, or any material with significant overlap, are concurrently under consideration for publication with another journal or press, or if they have or will be published elsewhere. Submitted articles will be screened to ensure they adhere to the submission guidelines, and contain content of sufficient quality and originality to warrant publication in the journal. Thereafter, on the recommendation of the editorial board, the article will be sent to area specialists for double-anonymized review. Under normal circumstances, the initial review process will take six weeks after which a report will be sent to the authors. Subsequent to a four-week period for any revisions, the editors aim to have the article ready for publication within six months of submission.

Statement on Academic Freedom
The Journal of Global Hindu Cultures is committed to fostering open inquiry, intelligent risk-taking, academic rigor, and viewpoint diversity. We seek to work with scholars from all backgrounds, and from a range of institutional affiliations and career stages. We bind ourselves to the unbiased treatment of articles and citations, as well as authors, reviewers, and anyone contributing to the journal.
